We recently visited the Parr Park Rock Art Trail in Grapevine, TX, which was started during the pandemic in order to inspire joy among people during a difficult time.

I had to share about it because it’s truly one of my favorite frugal activities we’ve done this summer! If you’re looking for a free activity near DFW to do with your kids, keep reading.

If you are local to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, I highly recommend making a trip out there! It’s so beautiful, inspiring, and a true work of art.

Wondering if there’s a rock art trail near you? Simply search “rock art trail near me” or “painted rock trail near me” and there’s sure to be one that pops up!

I was able to discover the Parr Park Rock Art Trail through a local Facebook group where they post a “rock of the day” and announce when new rocks are dropped off. This rock trail is also trying to set a Guinness Book of World Records for the most painted rocks in one place.

We had such a good time, strolling along the trail with our friends and pointing out our favorite rocks.

A few quick notes on how to get to the Parr Park Rock Art Trail.

It’s easiest to use the church address at Church of the Cross: 3000 William D Tate Ave, Grapevine, TX

Park in the furthest southwest corner of the parking lot. You will see the church playground, and a sidewalk leading to the trail.

Head west on the trail for about 1/4 of a mile. You will see an entrance to the Wall-Farrer Nature Trail (but don’t go inside this entrance).

In front of the trail entrance you will see this rock with an arrow letting you know you’re on the right track!

You’ll see the signs and all of the rocks soon. Now, you are ready to enjoy the collection of painted rocks!

Want to paint your own rocks to add to the collection?

You can follow this tutorial here to learn how to paint your own rocks, so that you can take a few when you go to add to the collection.
